The upcoming New York Auto Show just got a little more exciting because Mazda could debut the latest MX-5 Miata with a power retractable hardtop there. The best evidence comes from Autocar, which has an image of Mazda's invitation.
Mazda is keeping details under wraps but the company sent out invites which ask journalists to "Help us blow the lid off at the New York Auto Show." That doesn't reveal much but it seems to indicate Mazda will unveil a new version of the MX-5.

Need I say more about the possibility of a Roadster Coupe? Known in the United States as the MX-5 Miata Power Retractable Hard Top, the soon-to-be-unveiled model will most probably get a similar folding hardtop mechanism as the third generation of the roadster. In the case of the former generation, the hardtop adds approximately 79 pounds (36 kilograms) to the weight of the soft top model and it can be lowered in 12 seconds.
The fourth-generation MX-5 Miata, the ND to all the hardcore fans, is only available as a soft-top convertible but previous generations of the popular Mazda sports car have spawned additional variants including one with a retractable hard-top roof and even one with a fixed roof.
